Proposal
Adding another simulator to the game but instead of being for the military aspect of the game for the building side. This calculator would allow a user to input their heroes, powers, spells, and building levels to identify how long it would take for any given creation. Ideally this would be alongside the simulator in the Agora, so that a user could simulate how a given power, hero, spell, and/or building would affect the amount of time needed to complete.
Reason
Explain why you think this is either a necessary or enhancing addition to the game. How will this make life easier for players? If you are posing a solution to a problem make sure you describe the problem.
When the game first started there were only two things that would affect the amount of time it would take for a building or unit to be completed aside from world sped: technologies (shipwright, trainer, and crane); and the building level (harbor, barracks, and senate). The only thing that affected cost was technology: mathematics, conscription, and architecture respectively. Now in addition to the old technologies, there are a whole host of things that can affect a units build time and cost, and buildings have ways of being constructed cheaper and faster. By adding a way to automate the math to determine how long and how much something will cost depending on the in-game factors would take the burden off of players of trying to figure out how to balance their cities. Some people might say that a dedicated person could do these calculations separately, but this would simplify that in the same way the simulator simplifies it for all players, and makes it easier for new players to figure out how to build up and out their cities effectively.
Details
Explain the specifics of your proposal. How will it work?
Ideally this would work exactly how the simulator works. Though it would have a slightly different look as necessary, one section would say building a user could input what level the building is now what level they would like to build to and there would be a section to input the various factors that could change the output such as Christophulous level, Power, Crane y/n, and Senate level. behind the scenes would be controlled for world speed.
The other section would look similar to what the simulator looks like. A drop down menu to select a god, a row of units with a text box to include the number of units desired, then a section to input the hero, hero level, spells, powers, barracks or harbor level, and the technologies. It would then compute based on the inputs how much it would cost to build and how long it would take.
Balance/Abuse Prevention
Does your proposal open up possible exploits or make it possible for players to cheat? If so, then how can this be addressed?
I can’t foresee how a user could cheat with this suggestion or abuse it. All of this information is available and certainly there are people who have made spreadsheets that contain all of the calculations. This would simply help people who don’t have the time to build those sheets, or find them, and to have access to that information. In the same way that a person could create a spreadsheet to determine the outcome of a battle, but for the existence of the in-game simulator which makes the process simpler. This suggestion is geared to helping the casual player who just doesn’t have every contingency down to the letter to help them build and have fun.
