Alliance Forum Setup

Here's a simple Alliance Forum Setup that I got from the WIKI and tweaked. The alliance Titles are abbreviated so they will all fit on the Tab-line. You can tweak it how you want it, and add or delete as you see fit. Having descriptions helps the alliance members to know what that forum topic is for. Locking the forum helps keep them from accidently or intentionally deleting a topic, and to keep the members from replying and cluttering up that particular topic when that topic should be a "read-only" from the alliance leadership team.

ALLIANCE FORUMS
1) The first line goes into the topic header on the Administrative page and that is shown on the tab. 2) The second line goes in the “Description” on Admin Page, and will be shown on top of Thread List for that forum. 3) This is where it is noted if the forum should be noted “important” or “hidden” or “locked.”
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1) READ FIRST
2) (FOR FORUM TIPS AND GUIDELINES AND GREETING FOR NEW MEMBERS)
3) Important, locked.

Too many tabs. We keep it simple: "General", "Strategy", "Tactics", "Reports", "Trade", "Talks" :)

Here are a lot of tips:

1. Your 'Read First' section should ideally be included in the Welcome Message. There really is no need for anything dedicated to this in the forums. It may also include some things that would fall into the 'Internal Announcement' section or possibly that could be sent in a mass-mail.

2. The 'Alliance Rules' and 'Forum Rules' would again not be needed as a separate section of the forums. Best thing to do is include these in the 'Internal Announcement' section or to send round regular mass mails to update and reinforce these rules. Leaders of the alliance should be responsible for the alliance rules and a forum moderator (if different to the leader) should deal with forum rules.

3. the 'Introductions' section will pretty much always be a single thread in the 'General' section and it need not be any more than that.

4. New member applications should not be dealt with publicly and really have no place at all on the forums (with the possible exception being if they are discussed in a private forum by leadership only).

5. Farming is a tricky one. Often I would place this with individual teams/islands of players if this was a strategy in place. Otherwise, it should be done by mails between players, as not everyone has relevance to the information you are sending.

6. Roll calls should firstly, not be part of a forum and secondly, not be used at all if you plan on getting anywhere. Most people will not sign in regularly, if at all. Scrap these altogether.

7. Jobs should be advertised via a mass mail. Details of applicants and the jobs should be kept on a private, leadership only forum.

My ideal setup for a forum would be as follows:
(Hidden) Leadership/Council/Private - (Only for large leadership structures)
General
Attack/Operations
Support
Hints/Tips/Guides/Q&A
Claims (For large alliances mostly)
Off topic (for small alliances, throw this in with general)
