Benefits of Hydra

Hydras are great on Theta, and kappa. Fast worlds mean fast building.

Im begining to wonder if its viable to use these units in any other way than faking, they seem to be very slow and easy to clear away.

I kinda doubt the faking too, as you could send an FS to go at them

FS i asume you are talking about Fireships, i thought these units were defensive and could only be used in support, as far as ive been told they cannot be used in any attack.

I prefer to just make LS instead, as 1 hydra equals 5 LS. Yet, LS are easier to make. They are also faster.

Overall, Hydra is a pretty suckish unit.

I am sorry to rain on your parade, but hydras are not as good as I thought. I have six of them, I attacked a guy who had 20 Biremes. All six of my hydras died, but only 14 of his biremes died.
I'd say switch to another god as I think the stats look good, but it is not what they actually are (false information) doctor who gif.jpg

Nice Necro :D

You're actually kind of raining on your own parade, since basically everything that's been said in this four year old thread is about how su cky hydras are.

Not worth the cost to build them. If you want to get rid of mass amounts of favor, switch to Zues and build manticores.

I built a Hydra nuke in Hyperborea (the only world I would ever do such a thing) just because I thought the snake-headed darlings looked cute. If they were real I'm sure they'd make wonderful pets, but they are U S E L E S S

Pick a better god to worship such as zeus.

I disagree....

Rooster Rule #3. - OH MY GOD!

After playing this game for a long time, I have come to the conclusion that the God who seems least helpful in the beginning... is the most valuable in the end.

Don't get me wrong, each of the gods have really cool powers... and each adds to the strength of your empire.

its probably best to start with Hera in your first city and as you build your empire have cities that worship each god.

But in the end... when you have several cities and you are deep in the fray... the BEST friend of your empire is....

Poseidon... and his mighty Call of the Ocean.

Ships built in HALF the time? For a lousy 60 Favor Points??? THAT is a game changer.

Watching those tiny little dock workers dash around like Popeye on a deranged spinach high... cranking out first class biremes and top notch LS in half the time is WAY better than a 10% bonus for a land attack.... or a pointless Lightning Bolt.

Focus the majority of your growing empire's temples on Poseidon - at least until the diminishing increase of FAVOR gets too low.

Your teammates will thank you... and your enemies will rue the day they first caught sight of the black sails of your mighty fleet sailing into their harbor.

And this Rooster Rule ties into the number ONE Rooster Rule... Rooster Rule #2

But we'll save that rule for another day.

Unless something has changed, I was able to send a Fireship with my attacks in Athens. They won't kill anything and if I remember right it doesn't die either.... so just useful for timing (if this still holds true)

About the Hydra... completely not worth building. If you want something good, use that favor for Cyclops and get yourself a great LOU escort for your CS and then just build LS and BR for the naval escort portion.

Aicy

Strategos
Hydras are good because they have much higher dps than roaches, but they do lose in a straight up fight because they have significantly less health. Additionally they cost twice as much gas, so I'd only start to add hydras once you have a healthy roach army so they can tank the damage whilst your hydras deal it out.

If you mistimed a defensive snipe hydras will give your navel defensd a better chance of taking multiple clearing waves. Same rational for any unit with extremely high Attack or defensive values. If 1,300 damage is done to a given hydra it will survive the next wave that hits will have to deal the full 1,400 worth of dAmage to kill it, its as if your troops regenerate after every wave however with larger values associated with the units the more this can be of benefit. This happened to me i timed a defensive snipe not terrible but still had to take on two clearing waves before the cs was sunk( this was my first ever snipe attempt) and after reviewing battle reports the number of biremes saved made all the differance.
