Welcome to Day 2 of our Advent Calendar. The task today is about Ghosts - are you an expert?

1. What are the differences between a ghost and a normal city in terms of play? List as many as you can think of. Theres a lot :)


2. What is wrong with this information? List the errors in scenarios A, B and C:

A: Conquest world: Jim5 is very angry. His friend Jeff1 ghosted 30 minutes ago. He sent a colony ship to his only city Athens which landed 20 minutes after Jeff ghosted. The city was empty with only militia active. Just in case there was a 2nd colony ship from an enemy he sent a backup colony ship attack to land 1 hour after. This was not necessary so his attack only visited the siege but unfortunately Jeff1 had dodged his units and they returned 2 hours later and killed the siege.

B: Revolt World: Petrus5 refreshed his screen and his eyes widened in shock. His main island suddenly had 3 ghost cities showing. He looked around the area, they were everywhere. Boffy the Great, an alliance member and one of the biggest players in the world had ghosted. Why! No time to worry. He posted the info in the forum: ‘ Send your colony ships now we need to take all these cities ASAP. Don’t spy or get harbour checks just send a colony ship and then clear while it is travelling.”
He then reserved 2 cities, send colony ships with a 2 hour travel time and looked at clearing potential for his 2 reserves. He cast 2 EQ, one on each of his reserves (he used the daily prize to find the extra favor). Both EQ reduced the wall to 22 so that was a good result! He had a full slinger nuke on his main island so he sent 1 slinger attacks to the 3 cities there ready to post to help others and he sent 1 harpy to both of his reserves to work out what was there. All his clearing capability was within 2 hours so he had ample time…….

C: Domination Endgame: Consantius 7 opened his grepolis game eagerly. The Domination era had just begun. He was pleased to see his alliance held 13% of the total required, 2nd but close to the winning alliance total of 14%. He looked around trying to decide where to fill his slots. He already had a lot of front line cities so decided that some of the ghosts on the edges of the zone but on valid Islands would work. He had a chat to his alliance leader who told him. “No don’t do that. Ghosts don’t count unless they are taken by a player so it’s better to just leave them to disappear”.

1.
What are the differences between a ghost and a normal city in terms of play? 15 possible points
  • Ghosts have no owner so no advisors or buffs
  • When under Siege in conquest the besieger can attack and kill his own units.
  • In revolt there is no need to revolt the city to conquer.
  • Morale is always at 100% unless the city is under siege
  • Morale in a siege is adjusted to reflect that of the besieger
  • You cannot cast spells on ghost towns
  • You do not get defence BP when defending a ghost town
  • You cannot farm favor from a ghost town
  • You cannot support a ghost with mythical units
  • A ghost will never have a hero present
  • You can hc with one unit no matter what level the city troops are.
  • Attacking a ghost will not cancel protection.
  • Ghost cities deteriorate over time and as they crumble supporting units are lost
  • Ghosts eventually disappear (they decay completely) and any supporting units are immediately lost.
  • You can attack a ghost after activating VM
The following is also correct and gained a bonus point

They are grey in colour
They cannot belong to an alliance
They can’t attack
NOTE: You do need conquest researched to conquer a ghost. I did not deduct points if players had this wrong.

A:

  1. Ghosts cannot enact militia it is the player doing this before he ghosts. The timescale allows for militia activated by the player so this is correct. I gave a point for those who did not say this was wrong since most people thought it was.
  2. -Ghosts do not recognise a besieger so his own troops would attack - 2
  3. -Dodged troops vanish if you ghost so Jeff5’s could not return - 2
B.
  1. You can’t cast an EQ on a ghost – 2 points
  2. -1 troop can attack a ghost so 1 point for not saying this is wrong since again a lot of you mentioned minimum attacks
C
  1. Ghosts on valid islands count towards the domination total 2
