Discussion Of The Week #1: City points

Taking down the academy is not an option for me. When you get up over 80 cities you need to have every way possible to generate CP.

I am working on a city at the moment to see how big of a LS nuke I can create. I will post when I am done but I am sure I will break the 300 mark.

314 LS with a level 30 academy. I don't think I am breaking any records but 314 LS is way better than a 235 LS nuke that you would be able to build with a maxed out city.

However the point does still remains valid for everything else academy not withstanding, why max out everything else when it is not REALLY of benefit to purpose built city's for naval or troops nukes, it defeats the purpose of maximizing and optimizing the nuke.

Even a general purpose or Cs city can be negatively affected by maxing out every building you can, the saving in free pop by not doing it will help to counteract the loss of the pop used to build the Cs, thus allowing you to send more siege troops or Ls escort with it.

Oh, I agree. I'm still learning, too and downsizing cities as we speak ;)
I do like my temples and resources maxed, though, a respectable market level and then some sort of harbour and barracks, depending on the city. I always, in every game, believe there is not just one way of doing things. Certain builds will suit one player, another not so much. Of course, I could easily be proven wrong, but until then, I shall try and do the best I can with the way that works for me ;)

There has got to be a point of diminishing returns when dropping building sizes to accommodate more troops/ships. I have studied this extensively for my players. You will notice I actually have a 3600pt city. I will tell you that it can accommodate over 2000 support troops.
To share my most important finding on the subject...
In Grepolis, the most successful player is the one that can change or adapt. When I built this city, it was on the front, now the front has moved, and its in the rear. The only thing I can do with this city is to provide long term support, or kill off what is there and spend the time building the buildings. I would prefer it to be a bireme city, so I can get the support to the front in under a lifetime.
Reality is that it is easier to just take another city, than to do all of this planning to optimize a specific one.

Amen to that, bro. It's the same in every game and what I keep trying to tell the lads and lasses: Don't get to worried about "This is THE way to play", try out stuff for yourself, see what works for you and then go with it. If it stops working, look at it again and change.
