Favorite type of Units

Greetings everyone,

I have been reading the forums for quite some time now and have been seeing an abundance of emotional post about my alliance this and my alliance that. Instead of the norm, I would like to discuss about units in grepolis and how this info to beneficial to all. It is always interesting to see potential in players making the rookie mistakes we all once made when we first started playing and to be honest I never bothered reading the external forums till I started playing in omicron.

So If I may begin this discussion, lets begin with offensive units. In your personal opinion and knowledge of the game, what is the best mix of Offensive Units to have and what is your preferable LS escort count?

It is not good to talk about what your attack nukes contain on the external forum.
This could only work out bad for yourself.

@ W*Arms,

This is more or so for the rookies if they're any to learn the ropes. This is meant to share our knowledge of the game. But if you find it as being a liability to in-game matters then by all means do not share. This is to level out the playing field and to make our world more enjoyable with others being more capable and more confident to play the game. Heck, i'll share my OWN views first.

I personally like the horsemen and slinger mix. It provides with a balance attack and usually yields favorable results. I would usually go with a 30-40 LS escort. Yes always provide escorts with your transports.

Lets say you have 250 Swords, 250 Archers, 250 Hoplites behind a 25 level wall.
Lets see who does more damage.

Kills:
750 Slingers - 125 Swords, 125 Archers, 125 Hoplites
750 Hoplites - 90 swords, 90 archers, 90 Hoplites
250 Horsemen (750) - 129 swords, 130 archers, 129 Hoplites
200 Chariots (800) - 83 swords, 82 archers, 83 Hoplites

Slingers are cheaper to produce than Horsemen so Slingers are the best.

If you read through the questions and guides section you'll find discussion on this topic. You will also come across many comments about mixed attacks being for "noobs". Its true that "pure nukes" are more efficient but that requires you know what type of defense you are attacking beforehand.

My advice would be just build whatever types of offensive units the city you conquered already has researched in whatever proportions your resources allow.

Even if you have a spy report, and know what is there, by the time you build a custom attack and send it, (unless you are very close or the player isn't active), the defense is likely to change. One thing about this world, our enemy knows how to support.

W*Arms does have a valid point though so I probably shouldn't let you guys know my favorite attack unit is SWORDSMEN

Ok guys,

I see we are not comfortable about talking about "nukes", so I decidided to stir this discussion to Mythical Units.

Are mythical units overused or underused? and if so, are they over- or under-rated?

Peace,
Sablanizon

Personally. I do math to make my nukes specifically one major unit or another,

but I always mix my units up some because I have seen huge 800 Slinger 20 cats go down 17 wall plus 250S+250a, Mil. I'd send 600 slings 15-20 cats, some Horse, some hop, chars, medua's, manticorn, each from cities designate to producee a majority of one type of troop.

Spy to see what you up against several times. Try to coordinate the most efficient nukes to land first. Kick butt. + spells.

It all depends on the defending units. I usually build according to what I'm attacking.
Obtain this info either by checking your wall after attacking ground units or by spying. Then build the unit which best kills the defending ones. Oh..and use catapults..they're your best friends.

I try to avoid using Horsemen cause how long they take and usually aren't very effective. As for a LS escort..due to it being a Revolt world and where I'm at..I use about 40-70 LS to escort my troops. OR just time in a LS nuke.

@ alex420,

I have to disagree and agree with you on certain points.

Yes I agree horsemen do take long to train but I disagree that they are any less effective. If you take a look at bodnapa's illustration they yielded the most ABP.

On a strategic note, yes they are more cons than pros with horsemen, and I believe the situation will dictate on when and where to build such units. One good example if when on the offensive, one would want to build low-cost and fast to train units. But when on the defensive, one may want to consider building the horses, with cats of course, on a "green-zone", where there are not much hostiles around.

We're both on the second page of best attackers in Omicorn..I suppose both of our methods are efficient either way.

I've just had nothing but bad luck with horsemen in Gamma. Haven't used them much since. I just use them to farm the crap out of people on my islands.

Def slings and horses with a 40-100 LS escort or a LS nuke. Mythical units however are under used but it's kind of weird to have whole cities devoted to making like one kind of mythical unit I say this because I have seen it. I don't really like to use hops. I hate wen ppl use fire ships

I perfer slings the most, but you need to suplament your force with horse and chariot nukes aswell. I think that myth units are good later in the game when you can devote whole cities to them, there is nothing more devistating than a maticore or harpy nuke, they don't use transports and can't be destroyed in the water my biremes, plus they are vary demoralizing for an opponent. You will remember the guy who cleared your city with 2 manticore nukes and a harpy nuke. Pegasi are also great for sniping CSs if you make a nuke of them and can be good for long range defensive opps.

I like to attack with archers, that way if the other guy has really high walls they can shoot their arrows over them and you don't need cats. I don't bother with ls as they take too long to build, I also like defending with slingers because they look a little like my father so I know they'll do a really good job at protecting me.

Very bad advice. Please do not follow this. This is to benefit all not set them up for failure. This thread is meant to help noobs become better players in the game and much more enjoyable for all. Sorry murtius but this is one of the poorest post I have seen you post.

Best advice any noob can get is to join a good alliance who will teach them how to play the game, and I would be shocked if we had noobs in Omicron at this stage. If you are a noob and only joining this game, my advice to you would be join another world as this one is far too old to be starting in now.

As W*arms has already pointed out my post was a joke, if anybody missed that even if they are a noob (who has read all the post before mine) then perhaps they are playing the wrong game. Tough I doubt many noobs read these forums, I know I didn't for months after I started playing.

Perhaps you should pop a chill pill and relax sablanizon, I spent months training my noobs and I come on this forum to relax, chat and have a LAUGH with friends/enemies. I do not come on here to train somebody else's noobs.

P.S. Your post from another thread...............
You guys are freaking hillarious, now try teaching CB a bit of "sensible" humor will you? He seems to onl know sarcastic "dry" humor that is more annoying than hillarious.

Perhaps you should be the one who is thought "sensible" humor.

I too come here to relax murtious, I simply started this thread because even if its this late in the game I still noticed rookie mistakes and still notice new comers. Also it would have been nice to ready a different type of thread instead of the common pnp threads. I wasn't having a go murty and I was assuming it was a joke, and yes I probably need to pop a "chill pill". I guess it just wasn't my day and if you were offended by that I apologize.

No I didn't. If anything I probably plus repped him more times than I can remember. I find mutius post to be substantial and worth while. Even if it's not to my liking.
