Player Interviews
SirVladamir
D3TH
1. What player has had the most influence on you in grepolis and why?
There have been 2 players that I have drawn the most knowledge from. Initially I learned a ton from Gronbeck. His posts in the Lynx alliance forums were very helpful, and informative. He didn't just tell you what to do, he explained why. And Ford Prefect, the man is simply amazing. Just by being in the same alliance with him, and watching his supporting and conquest techniques it was impossible not to learn from him.
2. What was the noobest mistake you’ve ever made?
I have been lucky enough not to make any really big mistakes. Early in the game I lost a lot of units farming, before I figured out really how mood worked. I didn't escort my troops with enough Light Ships and watched a ton of slingers sink to the bottom of the ocean...many times. My first real conquest, I didn't understand about the random time modifier to attacks, so my land units hit before my navy attack...more slingers on the bottom of the ocean. On my first big attack with many cities I calculated the launch times wrong, so all through the night, my alarm would go off, I wake up click send, queue up the next attack and go back to sleep. In the morning I was surprised to see my attacks landing within several hours, instead of several minutes.
3. How do you feel your alliance is preforming compared to other top alliances in this world? Or others you’ve been in?
You can have the best players, the strongest cities, the most forces, the best strategy, but in the end, the alliance with the most active players is usually the one that comes out on top. I feel that D3TH has an extremely large active player base, and those players are learning more with every conquest. I don't think we are as skilled or organized as Lynx was in its prime, but we work well together as a team, both offensively and defensively.
4. What player’s game do you respect the most in this world, and why?
I would have to say right now it’s Bobytza33. Lynx opened with an amazing surprise attack on Black Sea. In the first 4 hours of the war they had 40+ cities in revolt. Within days half the leaders had quit and many more of their players had given up. Boby adapted to the situation, unified and coordinated the remaining Black Sea players, and survived a month of constant attacks by the strongest, most coordinated alliance in the world at that time. He was even able to grow his city count during that time. He understood that consolidation and close support were more important at that time then farming ability, and expanded accordingly.
5. Which player would give you the most joy to send to the rim, and why?
Honestly, no one. In my youth I would have had a list as long as my arm of players that have slighted me in some way or another. Now, I just enjoy the challenge of a determined enemy, but take no delight in personal vendettas. Don't get me wrong, I'll still send my enemies screaming to the rim every chance I get, but it’s not personal, it’s just business.
6. What is the most common mistake you see players making?
In my opinion the biggest mistake is only taking large, developed cities. City location is WAY more important than the size of the city. You can build a city up, but you can't move it once you take it. I think many people do not realize how powerful having cities close together can be.
7. How long have you been playing grepolis?
I have only been playing 2 weeks longer then Omicron has been live. I spent the first 2 weeks playing on other servers to just get a feel for the game, and develop a starting plan for when Omicron went live.
8. Do you see yourself still playing in 6 months?
Currently I do. As long as I am still around on Omicron. I played a little bit on other worlds but discovered I have just too many cities here to effectively play any other worlds with my available time.
9. What wars are you currently in? What do you believe the outcome will be?
D3TH is currently at war with Black Sea. I can't even predict an outcome. So many factors are involved in the outcome of a war. A lot of D3TH's power isn't near the action, and Black Sea is extremely compact. This creates a very interesting dynamic in the war, it all depends on which side can exploit the others weaknesses more effectively.
10. What do you believe were the biggest factors leading to the downfall of Lynx.
There really wasn't 1 particular event that caused the downfall. If I had to point at one particular thing I would say it was the "retirement" of MrGlenn. He did an amazing job of keeping Lynx focused and active. When he left, I think a lot of people just lost the fire they had. Even though Lynx stuck around in the #1 spot for more than a month after that, I believe it was his leaving that started the snowball rolling.
11. Why did you choose to join d3th?
I tried very hard to keep Lynx going, but my inexperience in leading a large alliance and the vast number of enemies that the top alliance always seems to collect conspired against me. During my conflict with D3TH I had started some friendly bantering with a few of the D3TH players. When it came time to say goodbye to Lynx, I felt like I already knew the D3TH players. I also believed D3TH was a better fit given my location.
