Alright, I'm in the mood for poetry so I started a new thread to display my works. Feel free to do CnC. :)

The Lonely Man Down the Road

I met a lonely man down the road.
Don’t ask me, which road,
Don’t ask me what he wore!

I met a lonely man down the road.
He was cryin’ a lot;
Because his head was hot;
By sitting under the sun a lot.
I felt sorry for the man,
And brought him a hat.
He said. “Good gracious! I should have brought that”
I went on my way;
Cheerin’ and skippin’ all the way.
While the man snickered,
Behind my back, behind my back.
I met a lonely man down the road.

I met him again,
He was pleading worth his game,
He asked me for money, but I didn’t have any,
He asked me for food, but I wasn’t in a good mood.
He called blights and curses upon me,
And I kicked him on the knee.
For I was the benefactor,
Still, why does he act so?
I met a lonely man down the road.

I met him once again!
I felt a lot of shame,
I apologized to him,
He said he never minded it.
I offered him money,
But he refused.

I offered him food,
But he refused.
I went on my way,
With less of a sway,
For I knew that I had erred,
Only to find my vision blurred.
“Thwack!” was all I heard,
“Splat” was all I saw and the face;
Of the lonely man down the road.

Now I know why people say so,
Meet if you a lonely man,
Run away before you get sowed.
Since as you sow so shall you be reaped.
I met a lonely man down the road.

Here is my next poem. It is based on Arthas from Warcraft (those who play it will know it. If you don't know then you can read it :) )

A Warrior Came Out

A warrior came out,
Out of the sand,
Out of the dust and dirt,
Out of blood and tears,
Out of hardship and fears,
Came a warrior

He was a warrior unlike anyone,
Destined to dispel the Dark,
And bring in the Light.
Bards sung of him,
Sparrows chirruped of him,
The wind blew his name around,
And it was sounded in every town.
A warrior came out.

Hopes rode on him,
People praised him,
But the Dark laughed silently,
Since the people spoiled him,
And the Dark laughed silently.

The warrior headed out,
Came to the Dark’s place,
A seer oversaw, the Mother prayed,
The warrior removed his blade,
The heavens shouted in joy,
The warrior offered his blade,
The Dark shouted in joy.
The heavens roared in despair.

Heavens lost a champion,
The Dark gained a champion.
A warrior came out,
His name was Arthas.

Hehe, Warcraft III had a brilliant storyline and your poem is reflective of that quality. :)

Darkness in our Heart

There rose a warrior from West,
From east rose a warrior,
From north came a warrior alike,
From south shone a warrior to be.
All varied in skills,
But made impressive kills,
The West battled with fireballs and flames,
The East played mind games,
The South were hunters free,
The North fought with bravery.

A Great War started,
Assembling warriors from the World,
Together they rose to free,
The world from darkness thee,
The warriors were called, respectfully,
The dark feared them extremely.
O Darkness, why do you do so?

They tried to make pacts,
But all they got were hacks,
From the swords, flame, fire and mind,
With a touch of bravery.
A lot earned glories to be,
But several died on the hands of thee,
O Darkness, why do you do so?

The warriors came alike,
Darkness cowered,
But was discovered,
They toasted it,
Then roasted meat,
For the darkness was in them,
Not in the world so free.
O Darkness, why do you do so?

Any funny poems? I've noticed all your poems have some kind of "darkness" or "negative" element in it, even The Lonely Man Down the Road.

Ok. Here's one.

There was a man from Proosia

There was a man from Proosia,
He wished to go to Russia,
He went on foot,
But tripped over a root,
He went on hands,
But got caught by a robber band,
He was released,
But soon was less pleased,
There was a man from Proosia.

Oh, how hungry was he;
He chewed a rock,
But broke his teeth,
There was a man from Proosia.

He scolded his teeth,
“You had to break,” he said,
But the teeth didn’t reply.
And he went on his way,
The man from Proosia.

Out came a distant land,
With great shores and leafy fans,
The Proosia man became happy,
He felt very sappy.
“I have reached Russia,” he said.
Went around and the people said,
“Welcome, welcome.”
The man felt elated,
Thinking of fame belated,
Came upon a house and said,
“It looks familiar instead,”
Looked he upon the nameplate,
Found his name engraved,
Travelled had he back to his place,
Not visiting Russia on the way,
That was the man from Proosia.

Here is another one.

Nostalgia

Ah the nostalgia,
I left my country,
To earn some money,
Thought I was wise,
Thought other countries were nice,
Thought people are modern there,
But did I know that I was naïve here.
Ah, the nostalgia!

I reached there,
Hoped to make friends,
Capture the latest trends,
Hoped to make an image
But only got rage.
Ah, the nostalgia!
I missed my fields,
The river, the mountains,
Oh, the trees!
Ah, the nostalgia!

People waved to me,
But I was enraged,
I longed to return.
So I came back,
And returned back to thee.
Thou, my country, my home.
Ah, the nostalgia!

Words

There was a man who talked with words,
He talked everywhere,
He talked anywhere,
He talked and talked and talked along,
There was a man who talked with words.

People first listened and then became deaf
For he talked along and his speech was tough.
Nature likes soft, Confucius said,
I don’t like Nature, said the man.
There was a man who talked with words.

There was neither feeling nor any emotion,
No one liked his tongue in motion,
He thought everyone was a bore,
Everyone thought he was a bore,
There was a man who talked with words.

A day trouble came to him,
He went to the gym,
He asked for help,
But didn’t get any,
He went everywhere but got nowhere,
There was a man who talked with words.

Later he was sympathized,
By a group of monks,
He was chastised,
For his words.
He learnt his lesson,
And never did he only talk with words,
His speech became softer,
His tongue mellower.
There was a man who talked with words.

Very nice. :) I must confess, I'm not big on poetry so I may miss the point entirely. I personally feel that the repetition at the end of each stanza is a bit, well, repetitive. :D

I really enjoyed Darkness in our Heart. You have some really great concepts!

Beauty of Life

Some people wander around aimlessly,
In their monotonous jobs,
Of their monotonous lives,
For their monotonous desires,
Nothing to live for,
Nothing to die for,
Hard as rock is their life,
Shattering almost instantly.

While there are others,
Having dynamic jobs,
Dynamic features,
Never is there any monotony,
Living life to the fullest,
The rising sun is their joy greatest,
The setting sun is their sorrow greatest.
Their life is rich, materially,
And abundant spiritually,
For they never age or die,
Never are they defeated in the school of life.

So friends, life is a story,
With fame and glory,
Riches and melody,
For only few have succeeded as such,
And they have changed the world so much.

O Creator!

I love you, O Lord!
Not as a wife,
Not as a beloved,
But as a son, who loved his Father.

You gave me life,
You gave me strength,
You gave me wisdom,
You gave me health,
Gave me my dreams,
And the determination to accomplish,
And the power to succeed.

You held me,
Cherished me,
Nurtured me,
Made me what I am.
For that I am truly in your debt.
What will you have of me?

I shall fulfil you,
And make you proud,
You set hopes,
And I shall complete them.
To create order from chaos,
To purge all evil from me &
The world.

I shall protect Earth,
Your dream and creation.
Thy will be done,
O creator!

Thnx for the compliment. I have kept the 'repetition' suggestion in mind and have written some poems hence. Please read them too. :)

I'd like to see something satirical! :)

These two poems are my favorites. I cannot +rep you Varun, so I will rate your thread five stars. It's the feeling and vocabulary and imagination that you put in these to make these poems best. I felt like I was reading a published poem when I read these. Don't stop writing!

Well, I know that it has been a long time. So, here is my latest poem.

The Successful Man

There lived a man,
And what a man was he;
He won everything,
And owned everything did he,
He thought he had all,
Happiness, comfort, luxury you name it all,
But people called him,
Behind his backs,
All the names,
Which would make you mad.

He found his son,
Tweeting a word,
That said that the man was a pun.
Successful in exterior,
But heartless in interior.
The man understood,
That he misunderstood,
What life stood for,
And all that mattered,
Was that he changed,
And won all those,
That life was worth living for

Here is another one. It is little bit hilarious and informative (According to my mom. So it has to be good :) )

Moderation
There was an old man in Sparta,
Who spent most of his time in pasta.
But wise was he,
For he lived a hundred and was preordained,
To live a thousand more.
He boasted of his wit and his pasta,
So came a smart aleck,
Decked in smart robes,
With a smart foot and smart looks,
Smart air and a smart brain,
And most of all with a smart mouth.

Asked he the old man about moderation,
Telling the old man stupid with acclamation,
Great was the old man’s fury,
Punched the smart man in the gut,
And kicked him on his butt.
Bore it with silence, did he,
Without uttering a word of misery.

The old man then said,
“Overwhelmed in moderation is Contentment”;
“Overjoyed in moderation is Happiness”;
“Obsessed in moderation is passionate”;
“Anger in moderation is just right”;
“And age in moderation is fulfilment”;

Having so listened, the smart man asked,
Tell me O man,
You rained kicks and blows,
You beat me with sticks and stones,
You bruised my heart with actions and words,
Such was your anger.
Then where was your moderation?
And more so, old man,
If moderate you are,
Then why do you have to live an age so far?

Bent with sorrow and shame,
Did the old man admit,
That he had been defeated in his game.
The man was old with sorrow,
But grew wiser with age.
And respect did he forevermore,
All those who came in smart robes, smart walk and smart talk.
