Discussion Points & Army size

There isn't really a "number" you can put on it. At the end you just need a GOOD army. Points depend on the type of buildings you constructed, and to what level. But this can differ to every player...
So there isn't really a number to put on it.

At the end, when you have a good city that is built out to your "values" then you have to make sure your army is good enough, in your opinion. :)

Playing with the simulator, and calculating your population can help with that. :)

Read this.
SHould help. :)

Essentially, you want to build your cities up to 9-10k tops and use the remaining 1500+ pop to build your army. Usually consisting for 1000+ land units, sufficient transports to carry them and a LS escort. Though the LS are not needed if you are good enough at timing to land a LS nuke just before your land units hit.

As Jor said, there's no formula... You should just be building as many units as possible really!

No offence tom but in both the link and your advise there are plenty of mistakes. Usually you should build your cities to 9-11k and that still leaves your with about 2000-2400 population for your army. LS escorts are needed even if you can time an LS nuke to land before your units as the defender could still sneak support in. Now for the link:

Firstly suggesting horses as defensive units is simply ludicrous and should be removed. Then the defensive ratios are all wrong: not sure what that swords:archers, 6:4 is meant to be, however I do know what it is - a bad defence! Its totally unbalanced in terms of defensive stats and even worse its weakest against horses. If your defensive stats are unbalanced, which they shouldn't be, then you at least want it to be against sharp attack. To round it off it is also a complete resource balance with no rock being used and tonnes of wood and silver. That is absolute much that is.

The second defence isn't as bad however it is not 'no weaknesses' as it is a very rough and badly hewn defensive ratio which when multiplied out leaves a lot of room for error, as can be seen by the fact that i've calculated that it would be weaker to pure slinger nukes (the most frequent) than any of the others. I've haven't checked in the simulator yet but my maths isn't wrong so you should find that is what happens. Not to mention your final troop count is much too low and you fit many more troops in, at the moment a pure will be able to wipe it in one wave.

As for your final defence then I can tell you that again there are plenty of mistakes without even using math I can predict that it will be a lot weaker against a pure horse nuke (second most frequent) than any of the others.

An absolute dreadful page that, needs a lot of re-writing.

S'what i said :p I do disagree about the escort though. It is risky... plenty of people do it.

I did not write that page :D :D

It is on the list to re write actually :)

I build my cites to about 10k in points which leaves me with free pop to build 50 LS and enough transports to carry about 1.6k land troops. My LS nukes are usually around 230-250 LS and bireme cities tend to have about 300+ biremes in them. Don't know if that helps but that's how I've always done it.

I have most of my cities at around 8k points optimally, any larger and it becomes a juicy target. My average points on Lindos (with 15 cities) is 6.5k i believe.

This allows me to have around level 30 resource camps, 20 harbour and barracks, cave 10, market 10, temple around 10, and i demolish senate to 14. level 0 wall, as im playing conquest and i like my offensive snipes :3

Im very conservative in my builds though, i prefer to put 100% of my resources into building troops if i can, i dont concentrate on my city at all. ABP rank matters more than points rank.

Capture-3_zps9cdb7f67.png

(8532 city points)

This build lets me have 355 biremes, and 1 slow transport (for multi timings) although that is with the 100 permanent pop thing. I feel this is as far as i need to build, as i can churn out 20 biremes a day easily if i have to.

Edit: Just noticed i haven't demolished the barracks lol :p

And in theory, you don't need resource buildings either as you can just send from other cities.
And you can demolish your academy as it doesn't reset researches.
And you can demolish senate (though if you lost a building level, you may have to rebuild the senate in order to meet the requirements again to rebuild the building. Risky...

Also don't need the divine statue.

That's what? 300 more pop.

- I am lazy, i dont farm much. Hence the camps.
- I also prefer to have the option to hold Olympic games and festivals if i need to, (Not that i do) so academy stays at 30.
- I only go down to 14 for that reason ;)
Statue instead of more temple levels. I use favor extremely frequently so i prefer to have a decent income.

Yes, i could make a 375 bireme nuke if i tried possibly, but the ability to rebuild fast is a much greater advantage than a large defensive nuke.

Strange showing that as a good city build, but whatever suits you I guess. A few simply ways to make your city without huge dramatically changes:

1. Demolish Divine statue. If you need more favor build up the temple instead. I can go into details why, but i prefer if you read the wiki on temple / divine statue first.
2. no point in not having warehouse to 30.
3. demolish senate to 10 (9 if u have no plans in near future to change anything).

Anyway There is lots of different ways to build a city depending on both your play style and how specialized you like your cities to be. I run a few different setups, Which I can present:

these building are in all of them:
resource camps are maxed out
Temple ~15
market place 20-30 (depending on location)
farm 40
warehouse 30
cave 10
academy 30
thermal bath
senate 10

For land nukes specialization (safe zone)
harbor 20
barracks 30
wall 1

For Navy specialization (safe zone)
Harbor 30
barracks 1
wall 1

Front line cities
Tower
wall 25
Barracks 30
Harbor 20-30

As you can see my focus is resources, fast rebuilding of troops and as big nukes as possible. City points should be in the 9.5-10.5k range

I think that differs in your opinion, over all in the end, all that matters is what you think of your army and polis, the points are just to show I think how much you have progressed with your polis, I don't really think that your army has any thing important to do with the points to.:)

The points are more of a marker, i.e. the less buildings you have the more farm space you have for troops and can increase your army size - because of having less buildings this will be reflected in your polis point size.
