Has anyone got the definition for the island types?

Best ive found was a description but this doesnt give town offsets required in conjunction with towns/number_on_island plotting. Throwing the towns up is straight forward but some will overlap using just island_x / y

1-10 = player islands with farm towns, 11-16 = uninhabited islands, 17-21 = rocks

This is the crude workaround ive knocked up to get around the multiple cities on a single plot location. Problem is ive not checked ive moved the points into other islands but doubt it looking at the map cords and size.

PHP:
    $xplus = ceil(($nt[number_on_island]+1)/5);
    $yplus = $nt[number_on_island]+1;
    if ($nt[number_on_island]+1 > 5) {
        $yplus = $nt[number_on_island] - $xplus;
        }

    $x = $nt[island_x]+$xplus;
    $y = $nt[island_y]+$yplus;

Its horrid but basically if you write down 1 - 20 in a 5x4 box this will give you a 1 pixel offset for each city in a square shape.

500,500 island_id = 7 would become
island_id + 1 making the range between 1 and 20, not 0 and 19 as PHP has rounding up using the ceil() function.

Note that these are python arrays, and not php code as the container says.

Only island_type 1-10 are able to have players inhabit them. island_type 11-20 are uninhabitable.

So shown there is an array of the islands 1-20, each with an array contained inside the array, for the offset of each city (0-19)

@Rims: It's up to you of course but I think that on a world map level the island coordinates grid is 1000x1000 (i.e one pixel representing one island). I think there is no need to bother about town offsets on that level. On the level of ocean maps the offset becomes important.

Oh and here you can see what type of island corresponds to what island type number ;)

Interesting, because until now I had the impression that islands 1-10 were islands with farms, and 11 - 20 were habitable islands without farms. My city "outpost1" is located on an island type 11.

Mate, you could well be correct, I've only very quickly glanced at the world data. I'll have another look, and I'll tell you if you're correct or not. :D

I don't have time to analyse the data properly at the moment, but it seems very random on second look, as to which islands are which. I mean, I have found islands all throughout the data, 1-20 which appear to have farming cities on them.

As I say, I'll have to have a more in-depth look through the data. I will have an answer tomorrow.

I wonder if Innogame would be willing to "publish" specs about the world data, this would be an easy way to make sure what is what without any guesswork. I mailed them a few weeks ago but did not get any response. Ofcourse I dont blame them: they were too busy programming version 2.0 :)

edit: with "specs" i mean like algorithms to calculate exact distances and travel times, how they solved the "ghost" city problem in world alfa, i.e. the functional software specifications of the game...would be nice to have that :)

fyi the sql against the 54k towns in EN3 have the following island type count.

This suggests 1-10 = player islands with farm towns, 11-16 = uninhabited islands, 17-21 = rocks was correct with the addition rocks being uninhabitable.

Thanks frynturn - that table was exactly what I needed! The last bit I need, and a potential 5th column to your table above, is direction. I could create a graphic of each of the island types with a marker on each location and manually create the data, but doing just the main islands is 20 x 20 entries...someone must already have this info...
