Once researched are there any other prerequisite needed ?

Well,

You would need a target in mind, I suppose.
And of course, if the target is as big, or larger than you, you would need some help, from whoever, alliance, or friends.

I'm pretty sure that's it. I'm not sure, unless they've changed things because the last two worlds I've played in were a Conquest System, so yeah :')

You should be good (as long as you have enough troops/ships to conquer).
