Round Out VS. Specialize

Question: What do you believe are the pros & cons of whether you choose to "round out" (both/other) or "specialize"(def./off.)?

Reason for question: In reading the Wiki/Player guides, I became sold on the idea that to specialize was the best/preferred way to go. The "selling point" that got me hooked was the pointing out that one will not have enough research points available to complete all the research available. (I don't believe building a Library resolves this.)

However, I have since found in-game that many experienced players seem to dismiss (or outright scoff at) the idea of specializing. :heh:

So, I'm finding myself wanting some feedback from experienced players on how best to go about the game. Do you specialize in one and then make your second city the other type? Or, do you choose not to specialize at all?

Thank you for your feedback. ;)

Do you mean ratio of def/off in all cities? or off and def in 1 city?

I'm meaning choosing whether you will specialize in def. or off. in building, recruiting, and research within your city. Or, perhaps using the first city for primarily one area and then using a second city for other, etc.

I was curious how that idea worked out and the potential benefits, etc.

I think it depends on too many factors too say, i.e your alliance, enemies/allies, your current circumstances.

But tbh in my opinion id say offence minded, but birm/LS heavy. i have a very good land build city, and awesome LS city builld, never have trouble with the academy (without library).

heres a land building.. just need silver up a level or 2 and a few others finished.

and heres land off academy just need the BP thing and its finished

This is a question you should ask in speed 1 worlds, not here.In speed 3 there is no tactics involved just attack like headless chicken.

Yes guys, listen to mungus. Speed one, when you finish watching the paint dry on your LS nuke, is the most tactical type of grepo there is. All the other speeds have no tactics at all

You can ask Erik how was his experience :D
some of the best players you have in your team are speed 1 players ;)

*...nearly chokes on drink of coffee as she reads xAlpha's response...*

Good grief! Thirty one cities? LOL I'm...uh...not even in that ball field.

*waves from pre-pee wee field from behind batter stick holding ball for her..*

On wall & tower, I've always been surprised more people didn't build those up. I was surprised by your choice of Thermal, though.

Everyone thus far (that specialize) seem to agree that the 1st city should be Off. *sigh* And so guess which way I went when I started mine?

Thanks for the feedback, you guys. :)

Why have harbour 30 takes up a lot of pop for only a little time saved

That little time saved over 10 nuke rebuilds is quite a lot of time saved. I think that would be the reasoning.

Yeah but you can buy time with gold not population (at least when theres no event going on).

I want to see who is buying time on nukes when he has about 150 cities, it costs about 30 pop = 3 LS or 4 Birs, and it save you like 15-20 hours rebuilding full nuke i think.

Trust me :-D

I'm curious to know what level he thinks to stop at for a LS nuke?

If level 20 is enough then you're gaining 4 light ships and losing 15% recruitment speed.

Hmm, 4 light ships worth of pop or gaining 15% of time....
