Spearmen were the best form of cheap land defense unit after Archers in ancient era warfare.
Why not add them to the game?
The Proposal:
Addition of New Land Unit: SPEARMAN
This would be Default Defensive Unit, replacing Swordsman which should in fact be an Offensive unit like it was historically. I'd make Swordsmen available after building Academy (level 1) and with a separate research.
Academy Level: 0
Research Required: None
Resource Cost: Wood 100 Stone: 30 Silver: 50
Population Cost 1
Defense vs Blunt: 20 (best used vs cavalry)
Defense vs Sharp: 10
Defense vs Distance: 8
