Thank you all

With the completion of our 4th wonder, IS has officially "won" world Lambda. And I would like to thank all of you for making this possible.

Within our own ranks I must start with our fallen warriors, my only regret being they arent here to see this. In no particular order: Ubuk, cyryl, guru warrior, jeffrey braithwaite, satla, ericwjp, rog1, klevy, ares154, diabola, jpizzle, greymon94, and micomona all stand out in my memory, I am sure there were others. We couldnt have done it without you. As Dr evil once did, I would pour some of my 40 on the floor as a salute to my fallen homies.

In our remaining ranks, ddd, sokm, loganos, monimon, randy, cyrus, dimi, and kwis all stand out as my oldest fightingest team members. Along the way we picked up many more, too many to name here, but everyone currently in our alliance deserves their spot as winner of Lambda.

And a big tip o the hat to all our allies, we couldnt have done it without you. First and foremost, a man no longer here, Eneid , old leader of Imperium was our first major ally. His crew of drakulle, grende and gladiator were always tight with me, we had some great join ops. Scotzman, twoclicks, sakuk you guys rock. Fenris you are my personal hero, your exploits on here made me laugh half a world away.

And to our enemies, who now number few but once were many, you made the game worthwhile. While I personally wouldnt call any of you friends (sorry thats part of how I play) many of you have grudgingly earned respect as persons that JUST WOULD NOT DIE! How many times did I have to organize ops to take half your cities, just to have you fill them back up with ghosts or inactives further away? I salute your tenaciousness.

Well now my mind wanders back to how it all started. Everything changed with purplehaze.

We started as GRE56 or some such nonsense, one minor wing of a massive MRA that everyone just really hated. Sokm and ddd rose to number one quickly in 056 and I joined on. We defeated all competition in our ocean and ruled it easily, the only alliance I remember defeating was atlanteans, and there was another. But after we ruled 056 we needed to expand out of it. To the north was SWAT who was getting hammered by the marines. We joined in and helped the marines finish off SWAT, gaining a foothold into 055. The marines were predicted by everyone to win this world with ease. I talked with eneid, ruler of imperium who had 046 in hand and secured an alliance to the west so we could concentrate north. We ended our association with the MRA we were part of and became Infectious state.

Looking for action, sokm boldly took an inactives city off the marines, and that was it, the war was on! They declared on us, sokm asked me to organize an operation against them as they attacked him. I chose purplehaze, one of their larger members with many cities on the front line near us. Now I wont toot my own horn here or go into detail of how I do my ops, but I will say I am very experienced in how to make these things work. We targeted 8 of purplehazes cities and shocked the world when we actually took 4. Back then that was much bigger than it sounds now. The marines were stunned. They took us seriously and their biggest player, kurb, and friends came after me with a vengeance, throwing everything they had at one of my cities. Big mistake, it failed, they lost tons.

After that was just repeats. We did op after succesful op, and defeated their return attacks again and again. I made friends with justagame, a lone holdout north of the marines who defied them also, and he shared some defensive tactics with me. Justagame gained friends and formed savage warriors. I contacted social gamers club, the number 2 alliance to get them to join us, but they declined. Discouraged, marine leaders started quitting and eventually the marines fell apart and we ate up their cities. Some of the refugees fled into savage warriors and social gamers club who became killer instinct. Predictably these refugees stirred up those alliances against us and they attacked. So it was KI and SW against us, but the same formulas that beat the marines took out first SW and beat back KI who changed to knights of freedom and tried to rally the rest of the world against us, getting mainly order of chaos to join in. But imperium allied their western neighbor, hekate warriors who became imperium of hekate and they took care of ooc and ki on the west while we hit them on the east. They were pushed back out of the core oceans, and knights of freedom fell apart. then the wonder race began.

Along the way their were some side battles I wasnt involved with. To the south hades tried to bite us in the butt, but fell apart at our first major op against them. To the southeast we did the same with a similar alliance whose name I forget. To the east Juggernaut waged war with apollo and myriad and we had a hand in those outcomes, poor apollo was caught in the middle and didnt fare too well.

And that about sums it up. Im sure I left a lot out, that is just the history from my personal viewpoint. Thank you all for your parts in quite an entertaining world and story.

Congrats IS!

you all worked hard and i fully believe you deserved the win :)

I'm glad to have been a part of all of this even if it's been a round about fashion!

great post mate and well said it's pretty much covering it all and it speaks volumes for the IS leadership in pulling this off.

Well Done!

You need to read this stuff before you hit the "post" button

This is a page of self-congratulatory drivel to memorialize the fact that you and your allies could not overcome an opponent a fraction of your size. You were so unable to exploit a huge lead and numerical advantage that Grepolis had to institute WWs out of the blue to drive this to a conclusion. How does this strike you as any sort of achievement? Did you really spend the untold hours to build 4 buildings first? If you sign up for the WW deal on an appropriate server, then I get it. This was not one of those servers - it just drug on in an inexplicable quasi-stalemate.

I burst out laughing at the "fallen brethern" nonsense. If by "fallen", you mean "banned for multi-accounting" then the sentence is factually correct.

Where to even start

IS didn't have the numerical or point advantage to start - they took on KI/Twisted/OOC etc and a load of others when they were at the disadvantage and they went ahead - beating you all back over and over and over again

IS worked damn hard each and every one of them and they did it they deserve the victory.

but at the end of the day if we are gonna talk or accuse anyone of multi accounting i think you should step back and look at all the leaders of KOF over the last 4 months lol and all their allies that are no longer here not because they moved on but because they got kicked out.

at the end of the day wether you like it or not they won :D they kicked everyones left right and centre and continued to grow faster and greater than half the world could contain.

Although I quit lambda for the fifth (and final) time in December :D I occasionally look over the external forum and I feel like I have something worthwhile to add to this thread:

First of all, I have immense (if somewhat grudging) respect for Sophistacles, SokMBoppers and crew. You took a rim alliance that was part of the second-largest MRA family Lambda ever saw and through shrewd diplomacy, merges, a large member count and great fighting you took the world by storm. I won't say I liked all of your methods, but all is fair in love and war and I know that you know exactly what I mean. :D

Lambda was the world where I truly learned how to fight, and I think the only alliances that I ever actually fought (off and on for a year) were the IS family (and later IMP and IOH). I remember your failures against Semper Fidelis and your later success against The Marines in the PurpleHaze Operation. I recall that you outgunned everybody so thoroughly that there was a time when only 15 players on the entire server had more than 40,000 dbp. Everybody else quit because they couldn't deal with your offense. Having started my war against IS in southern O55, Lambda was a study in tactical retreat for me.

I remember leaving for a couple months to hammer through a tough semester, and coming back to an entirely new Lambda where the Marines had been defeated. I tried to save what I could-- the wonder island that we'd made back when the notion of 2.0 was some faraway thought.

I remember how Satla had more LS nukes than any other player that size I have fought against since then. I remember how ares154's timing was so good that (s)he didn't even need LS to escort the land attacks--an LS nuke from another city was sufficient. I remember being enamored by alliances leaders like Killabanana (Semper Fidelis) and Manluke (Savage Warriors), only to see how shallow they actually were after they ditched their alliances when the going got rough. I remember having a propaganda war against Sophistacles over alliance spies, and deleting my account in my anger (the second time I quit). I recall giving all of my player guides to the Stormlight Empire before I deleted my account in the vain hope they would stand up to Sons of Hekate. I remember how ironically, they ended up joining "the enemy."

More importantly, I remember those of us that finally banded together in Knights of Freedom and Order of Chaos to stem the rising tide of the Infectious State and it's allies. We came from The Marines, The Social Gamers Club, the Narwhals, Silvatica's Army, Myriad, The Mighty Boosh, and found a home in skype. I remember how hopeless some of those days looked, when it seemed that 25 of us were fighting the entire world. Certainly we were at war with 8 times our number of players. I should mention Ianusy2k2, Tsar Assenav, Tzar Mirza, Minos I, Dewil 94, Thresher123, cracker00jack, Pete, UncleSmarty, Dante, and there are so many more!

I remember when Apologia dedicated herself, selflessly, to explicitly building Biremes. And I think she changed the map of lambda in doing so. This was before the new shared dbp game mechanic, so she never got any bp for it. But every time she sent out aid, the person who received it got the Defender of the Day award. Every. Time. I remember when IMPERIUM made the mistake of trying to take Scull's city when it had 3000 biremes in it. 50 players, and every offensive city of theirs got wiped. Because there is no feeling like the one you get when you have 50 attacks inbound at you, and you see this:

Picture22.png

In fact, we calculated once that Apologia had at that point contributed up to 5 million dbp to various players in our coalition, without getting any for herself. Tuza22's wall has close to 30,000 biremes on it. While I played tuza22, I never made more than 3000 of those. Her birwalls went out every day, and we all started to notice that the average land attack in the core coming from IS and IMPERIUM had more and more LS, at one point we figured land attacks averaged 110 LS for escort. :p Many players had such good timing

Picture28.png

that we discovered the only way to save a city was just to crush everything. I recall employing the tactic rather effectively against Loganos1, who by all rights should have been #1 in abp, except that we intentionally crushed his offense whenever we got the chance. And I feel that i need to formally recognize Richard666 for this snipe

Picture11-1.png

seeing as it's one of the many that he pulled off flawlessly. And no, we didn't use scripts. We were just that good at defeating the 1.26 anti-timer (as were our attackers). And I will be honest-- we had to be that good at defending to survive.

I remember when IS tried to rim Seljak; perhaps that was the first time that we realized that IS's offense wasn't completely unbeatable. The dates were easy to recall based on the awards he got them from:
Picture27.png

I remember how IS and IMPERIUM kicked me out of Ocean 45 multiple times, only to have to do it again whenever one of their players went inactive (I never had a shortage of city slots as tuza22 and was always ready to prey on the dead and dying).

I remember the utmost respect that I came to have for the players I fought against in IMPERIUM. Grende3, Eneid, Drakulle, and others. If I ran into them on another server, would I fight against them? Yes. If I had the opportunity to fight with them, would I? Most definitely.

Lambda seemed at times the most beloved, hated, drab and desolate, exciting and crazy place for fighting I've yet to encounter in Grepolis. In the words of a veteran from 'Nam, "You wouldn't know! You weren't there!"

I could keep on about the things that I remember, but this thread isn't about me, and it shouldn't be about the glorification of any single person or alliance. Kudos to IS for completing the 4 WWs, you earned it. This thread is about thanking your fellow players (friends and foes alike) for a good fight in a great world (despite the quietness of the external forum). Sophistacles had a great crew, I can vouch for that. I had a great crew too!

Keep on rocking lambda, I'll be watching from the externals. And just for laughs:

Every side and alliance has their point of view, but something is common with everyone. Strong feelings seem to be involved, those who have spent last year at Lambda taking part of great world war know for sure what fighting is. IS took the title and really deserved that, no matter how you measure it, they were the best crew overall and deserved the victory.

Its been a great year with great people, for many this has been first world, including me and many of my friends. Lambda has been great place to learn and have fun.

Congratulations to IS! A well-deserved win.

I remember starting off the tiny alliance of IMPERIUM alomst ages ago now and the many alliances that starting bullying us for siding with IS. What they didn't understand was that both our alliances were spin-offs of the same alliance therefore the alliance natural.

We had our major wars and the thrill that I have not experienced in any other worlds so far. My outmost respect goes to the IMPERIUM crew, especially Grende3, Drakulle, Gladiator, Nasato and the rest of the guys who made IMPERIUM a formidable fighting machine. My thanks go also to Sakuk55 of IMPERIUM of Hekate which further made this game a fun place.

Last but not least, a big thank you to Sophocles of IS and the rest of his crew for all the battles fought alongisde each-other, as well as our enemies without whom Lamda would be most certainly boring.

Well done!

Self- congratulatory? A little maybe, but if IS didn't say it, who's going to? When I started Lambda, it was The Marines and the Social Gamers Club at the top. Once IS took top spot, they never let go of it, so well done for that!

I stand by my original statement but thats not why I am writing

Ituralde brings up a good point - Apologia was, I believe, the most significant player on this sever. And I suspect on any server - I have not seen anyone employ that tactic since, which is odd as it is so effective and now dbp is shared so the role is incentivized.

I will say this - I have not fought better guys/girls than on Lambda. Having half-assed a few servers since, no server was more expertly fought.
