I Feel It Knocking

I feel the depression knocking,
I hear it scratching at the door.
Pacing before my walls,
Waiting for me to let it in.

It tears away at my heart,
Though I don’t know its full force.
But I can tell something is coming,
And that its power is so great

The darkness' screams pierce the walls,
Deafening the long held joy.
I run under the covers,
Praying they’ll protect me in the night

Beating against the crumbling walls,
Its desire to enter is magnificent.
Such power in a single idea,
Forcing itself upon my mind.

I cannot keep it out for long,
But I cannot bear the weight it brings.
Stealing my time and life away,
To fix the walls it has broken.

It angers me, it pains me,
The constant war it rages forth.
A war too painful to fight,
But much greater is the pain of loss

It is a dry pain, a quiet torment,
Never a tear shed or word said,
Never a clue of the fight I endure-
As I cannot acknowledge the hurt.

To acknowledge it would grant power,
Would grant the depression a name.
I must keep its voice barred to my heart,
Not letting the others find out.

The depression stings and burns,
With every moment I resist,
But I cannot let down my guard,
Or I will succumb to its might.

My mind is its weapon against me,
And time my one defense,
Will I win out this time?
Or will my depression win once again?

A Secret of a Dream

A secret of a memory,
A unheard whisper of a dream-
A life lived in silence,
Never heard, never seen.

Walking in the shadows,
Hiding from the lies,
Avoiding the judging gaze,
Before the others’ eyes

Falling away, falling apart,
Waiting for a moment of peace,
Dreaming of a new beginning,
Where the judgment would cease

But no such life exists,
No, it could never be.
All those that search for it,
Search for a nonexistent dream

The Best Kept Secrets

Why do you keep secrets,
You, tormenter of my mind.
Keeping me from the truth,
The one thing I can never find

Standing with such composure
You mock me with you stoic face,
Secretive tales of no relevance
Letting other tales take the truth’s place.

If only you would tell me,
Let me in to your grand scheme
The realization of the truth,
A truly aimless dream.

You are my own mind,
Keeping the tales of my past.
Age has weakened my fragile mind-
Now my own memories cannot last.

Thinking Out Loud

I’m thinking out loud,
Dreaming with a voice.
Body no longer an inhibition-
Free to make any choice

I’m saying what I feel,
Telling secrets I held inside.
Judgment can’t change my mind,
I refuse to be denied

I’m screaming out the pain,
Voicing the darkness within,
Shame no longer a factor,
A new life ready to begin

I’m whispering a goodbye,
With a hello soon to follow-
Trading the dark for light,
Allowing joy to conquer sorrow.

All For Naught

For naught is this life,
Foolish are the endeavors.
Vain ambitions granting pain,
And pain breeding the resolve.

A futile battle of hope with life,
Where death succinctly wins.
And although we know the victor,
We fight on with such passion

For naught is this life,
And empty is the next,
Eternally condemned to death,
Death of spirit or of free will.

Sentenced to endless torment,
Never to see another time,
Or an eternity of perfection,
No contrast or true feeling

Life is the poison we drink,
Never realizing the effects.
But even when the poison finally kills,
We wish for an eternal death.

For King and Country

I remember the day that I first saw you.
The night, oh the moon shined above you.
I fell in love, had no clue what I should do.
But I felt this fire deep within me,
Burned down below, you’re all I could see
I took your hand and said hello

Two years gone, I said “I love you.”
Looked in my eyes, “One thing left to do.”
I looked up and bowed my knee
“Will you marry me?”

I shipped out for king and country,
Fought this war so you could be free
Stood back and watched as you stood alone
No, I never thought that this would happen,
My whole life gone ‘cross the ocean,
Just tell me you’re still there for me

Back on home, if just for a moment,
I looked at you, beauty silent
Teared up as you told me your grand news.
Said that you were with child,
Took a deep breath, stepped back and smiled,
I knew not what I should do…

“I’m due back by the new year”
“Don’t worry, my dear, I’ll still be here-
I could never forget you, my love”
So I went back out, into the open,
Another war, across the ocean
Waiting the day I could be back with you

I left for king and country,
Looking back, you're all I can see,
Now all I want is one more moment with you.
No, I never thought that this would happen,
My last goodbye, while you’re across the ocean.
Don’t you cry, I’ll see you again, some day

They knocked on your door, “Hello Madame.”
Said as the child ran to meet them.
“Is everything alright, is my husband ok?”

I died for king and country,
Paid with my life so you could be free,
All I ask is that you still love me.
I always knew that this could happen,
But I’ll watch for you, way up in Heaven,
No, my dear, I won’t give up on you.
I will never stop loving you.

The flow may seem off. That is due to the flow intended not being naturally conveyed as it is intended to be a song. Since I can't write music, I can't convey the tune. :(

I may make some slight modifications to it. I dunno.

This is terribly mawkish. When you consider the works of sasson, graves, wilfred owen et al - this is like inviting hollywood to do a musical about auschwitz :(

Well Hollywood actually did do a play about dieing in a concentration camp. You might have heard of it, The Diary of Anne Frank. Not too popular I suppose just one of the best plays of all time.

This makes me sad thinking of people who died for their country.
