Answered What's the difference between different Generation Worlds?

Hi,
I am currently playing on Lato >>> https://wiki.en.grepolis.com/wiki/EN93_Lato <<< and whilst bored I have looked it up on the Wiki and it says it's a Gen 5 World but I'd like to know, I need to know, what that means. Is it an unlocking system?

Worlds are grouped by generations (starts with A and ends with Z). The only exception to that is the First Generation which was named after the Greek Alphabet. This doesn't affect gameplay at all, it is more for organizational purposes.

When a world completes the World Wonder stage, the world will be closed soon thereafter. So majority of the older worlds are closed because the closing criteria has been met.

I thought different 'generations' were different major upgrades to the game.
New registrations stop when World Wonders begin, and the world closes for everyone once certain minimum population criteria is met
