Who I Am

'Who are you?'
They all ask on a regular basis,
'He who has surely been called it all,
yet never seems to stumble and fall.
He who has seemed worthless to us,
yet refuses to accept that clear truth?'

And I tell them, 'I am who I choose to be,
and I choose not to be swayed by others.
I choose to stand tall, refusing to fall.
I have long since unveiled their lie.
I am more than just a pesky flie.
I am so much more they believe me to be.'

I am strong and caring, I never falter.
I stand by my principles, I never yield.
I breeze on through life, I never slow.
I always see my own path, I never deter.
I ignore petty insults, I never listen.
I am who I wish to be, I never tire.

There is a more important question
that I feel they should ask themselves.
Something they always avoid,
those who are no better than me,
he they think pitiful and weak,
'Who are we?'

We who always lash out, we never think.
We who mask our true selves, we never have strength.
We who are always cruel to others, we never care.
We who always look away, we never help.
We who refuse to criticize ourselves, we never change.
We who could do something better, we never try.

'Who am I?'
I'm telling you now,
'I am the light,
I am strength,
I am compassion,
I am who I am meant to be.'
