Keep everyone at arms length and don't form bonds/trust anyone for a long time, they may turncoat or become a farm in the blink of an eye.

Never be the diplomat
Never support an alliance your pact with
Always aim to be more aggressive than the player above you in stats
Always spread your cities
Always be respectful
Never listen to other peoples opinion on 'How to play'
Always learn the hard way

If this was correct 100% of the time I would've been rimmed 100% of the time.

There are some amazing people out there in Grepolis, and to say don't form bonds with anyone is in my opinion completely wrong.

In Ephesus currently there are 70 odd people who I would gladly send all my troops in support of leaving all of my cities open knowing that if someone tries to attack me, they will be there to support me.

Posted this over on another thread, figured I should add it here too.....

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Rooster Rule #2 - "Sea How We Win"

We conquer cities with our army... but we RULE THE WORLD with our FLEET.

Offense or defense - your harbor is your best friend.

It should be the core of your Empire. The busiest building in just about every city you command.

It should be running 24/7.

Its the best way to crush your enemies and the best way to defend your friends.

Its the fastest way to sweet sweet BP.

And..... Its the single greatest difference between the winners & the losers in this game.

Obviously , this rule ties into Rooster Rule #6. - "Hey Dummy! Use Your Academy." and Rooster Rule #3. - "OH MY GOD!".

Both of which I can safely assume you've already tattooed onto your forehead in reverse... as a daily reminder in your bathroom mirror.

----------------------------------

Let me say it again: Biremes and Light Ships should make up the vast bulk of your empire.

Don't get fancy... don't get cute... Don't over-think it... Don't turtle...

And don't think you'll land those 1200 slingers with a 20 LS escort.

Unless your opponent is even more stupidider than yourself... you'll watch most of those 1200 hapless slingers drown in the waters off your enemy's coast... long before they can sling a single rock.

Biremes & Light Ships. Say it to yourself 100 times. Biremes & Light Ships.

Build armies... land nukes... only when you plan on conquering a city. They build quick enough with a bit of help from Hera and the Academy. Leave at least a single farming village unconquered on each island, as a quick means of disposing of unwanted land troops after a conquest.

------------------
Footnotes:

Truth be told... I rarely if EVER build land defense. Transports are wasted population... and a bireme wall won't stop your city from being put into revolt... but it WILL stop the associated conquest dead in its tracks every single time... and score you a ton of easy defensive BP on the way.

Also, I do build pegasus for fast "land" support... but the last time I built a swordsman, I was still trying to figure out how to spell Grepolis.

:pro:

There should be another rule for you then..

-Always read the whole post...

Never listen to other peoples opinion on 'How to play'
Always learn the hard way

I have to disagree with FNOTS on this, although there undoubtedly has to be trial and error involved but it is always useful for newer players to read guides that are normally provided by decent alliance leaders.

is everyone serious? My post was a joke......

since we got ourselves a regular bunch of Judges here i may as well give some serious advice.

-Read the Wiki, even if you just accidentally press it instead of 'rankings' as there are some Gems on that :)

I'll train a noob, but only if they have enough of a brain to ask the right questions. Vague, general questions go in my "round file". For example, if they can't figure out how to post an SOS or use bb codes, then it's a lost cause. Also, if they fall under heavy attack and aren't bright enough to figure out which attack has the Colony Ship, they really need a healthy dose of "give a darn".

For those that cannot figure out where the CS is coming from, I will defend your city to maintain my alliance's defense record, then I will boot you, take the city myself and hand that off to a worthy member. This policy is more than fair IMO.

Many thanks to Rooster Jones for directing me here. Rooster's Rules have come in handy as general maxims, some of which (Oh My God) I've already learned the hard way, which should please Fist. I'm enjoying the Happiness for resource production, letting me put in more barracks and farms instead of more levels in the resource fields - something I've emphasized in our alliance forum since my first day of Grepolis.

And just to annoy Orestes, I'd like to ask a vague and general question:

What do you do, when despite your best efforts, your alliance fails to maintain high unit cohesion? I've worked tirelessly in our forum, being one of the two posters - and I outstrip the other contributor by at least thrice the amount of posts, and a factor of at least 100 of meaningful content. Little response to messages, no contributions to raids, again with one exception. Not everyone can devote as much time and effort to the game as I can - but the time they do spend should be of exceptional quality.

I've got broad shoulders, but I don't want my back broken over people who fail to show the slightest love for their fellow countrymen.

Clarification: I'd like a vague and general answer to the vague and general question. This is not a failure on the part of the Alliance, but in my leadership.

Battle for conquest is won or lost in harbor.

"When you kill a man you're a murderer
Kill many and you're a Conqueror
Kill them all, and you're a GOD."
