Academies - Are they worth it?

The alliance member limit for Tau is 150 players. So i was curious on opinions for the need for an academy with a membership limit this high.

Normally 50 - 70 players is more than enough to be a successful alliance and as we have seen we even have alliances with around 30 members who are doing some serious damage.

Why then is it wise to have a member cap of over 100 or have an academy alliance? Previous experience i am sure has shown the problems with academies and how they are run.

So my question is... Are academies worth it?

i say that to me academies are not worth it with such a high membership limit.... i mean if you did fill up to the limit you would have so many inactives you would waste your time consuming them. let alone add the headache of an academy into the mix

Exactly, then there would be shared forums... if they use them lol.

So say if you have 100 members and then a 50 ish member academy that is a 150 players you got with at least 1/4 not that active, around 1/2 who are just there and then you are left with the elite few that actually make the alliance :D

Plus you really have to trust the person running the academy otherwise it could cause you some serious issues.

then again comes the trust thing... with 100+ players how many are weak links lol. leaking info to save their bacon when things get tough and all. i think they are more of a headache all around

Out of that 100 at least one is bound to crack under the pressure of the attacks on them. It's survival of the fittest, or in this case who can message fast enough with info to save their own behind from the sharks :D

i am definately all ears to your insight on this. maybe you could change my mind on this but i am almost dead set in academies are no good.

But I swear, academies are really useful. Not saying it will be completely successful but it's worth it. Hehe :D

I guess that conceptually academies are good. If you have an academy with good players in it, then you will have more good players. But, it never really works out that way. In reality it's a lot easier just to have one alliance.

I think academies are good when the server is younger to help teach people to play the game without worrying about so many wars but as the server progresses. i think they become pointless and are very much like sheep just waiting for someone to tell them what to do.

I disagree as i think it comes down to the creation of the academy if you was to start it with a bunch of newbies then yes it would be more of a hindrance than help but if you was to take a good strong army which has already proven themselves worthy of good attack nd defence moves then they would become an asset i always see people needing help with clearing nd cs defence nd the more help they got the quicker the growth without having to regroup nd rebuild more troops ready for a second cs launch to say no to a GOOD academy then id say its like sayin no to a pact alliance which iv already seen pacts win a war nd with an academy they take on your name so will b more trustworthy than a pact which will eventually take on thier own agenda i dont know how much you know on the war withpetrika in taurus but he shoulda been taken out easy but was a feisty little fukr nd stood his ground for ages if someone would of bailed them out nd taken under wing someone like him woulda made a great academy leader

i accually kinda don't like academies. one thing is from past exsperiences in other games academies allways seem to whine alot about people attacking them and stuff and it allways gets sent to us. its rather annoying.. yea in the begining i think it helps show those who have potential and those who are just nutjobs and don't know how to play but i really c the point in them at this stage...... its not like players will zoom throught the ranks because there are such massive players now.

Academies are worth it if they provide a benefit to the main alliance as well as to the players in the academy. Really you have to look at it case by case. -Doog

Also there is lots of time left on this world so it would be very easy for a player starting today to be in the top 50 in points or abp or both long before the world closes or whatever it will do after the wonders are built.
