Best way to go

I've been wondering about some of these things I'm about to list,after agrueing about it with some of my friends, which is the most effective way to go? Build up all your buildings or focus on military? And would it be effictive to spread a thin chain of cities all the way to the end of the world so that no one would be there and you could prepare in peace or would that just be a waste of time? Just wondering these things..

best way to go in my eyes is military as by giving your city lots of points you put yourself on the radar of conquerors which you don't want straight away so is best to build the troops up first so you can at least defend it

and prepare in peace? your playing the wrong game

Haha I don't exactly mean total peace, eventually you'd have to fight anyways but for the time until your well prepared
