Yeah the way it was before was better to be honest, some people complained about it however I think the effect it has on the game now vs the original implementation is much worse.
Now it is the big spending can pay a lot and get a substantial head start in the game, and everyone else just suffers. - It should have been a min gold trading payment of 25/50 but not cap the resources that way everyone could have benefited.
