Impact of changing gods - Naxos World

I took over a new city yesterday (number 7) which was worshiping Hera. As I was already strong on Hera, I switched to Poseidon. Whilst I expected to lose any accumulated favours for that city (hardly any) and lose any myhical units held there (none), instead the game took away over 300 current favours accummulated through other cities still worshipping Hera.

Is this a bug or just an over simplified process in the game?

This is not a bug. When you change gods you get the warning that you will lose all mythical units of this city, all mythical units supporting you are returning with all troops to their native city and you will lose your entire favor with the god you were worshiping. Since favor is shared between cities you lost all your hera favor.
