From what I can see most of them left ATARI formed a new alliance, left that and some of them joined MS. I don't see how this is a merge nor a refugee.

better look at the definition of refugee. I see no refugees being gobbled up by us. Just saying. Nor is it a merge as a merge requires a mutual blending. I think it this case it was a matter of logging on and finding your game has landed squarely in a cow patty simply because a leader decided to disband.....
