Do people find it easier to write a piece with a set theme, then? I assumed that there would be more entries in a freestyle, but if that's not the case I will look into specialising it a little more!

lol There are people like me who need a specific topic to help spark ideas, but maybe I am just special :p

Hehe, I'll let you peeps suggest theme nominations to vote on for the next competition. Or would you rather just have me set a random topic and go with the flow? :p

Three entries so far, five days to go. :)

I think freestyle is better because when I have a theme, I feel like I'm a slave getting commanded to write a certain genre. That's what I feel, but I must be alone in my opinion because everyone else doesn't seem to be agreeing with me.

Perhaps a freestyle should be an option in the theme poll, then?

Yes. You can make on poll that asks "Would you like Freestyle or Theme" and if they like theme, you can make another poll on which theme.

I prefer freestyle. You're free to express yourself or create something about anything especially anything that interests you. This is good because everyone has their own interest meaning the amount of work contributed here will be diverse and interesting.

When it becomes categorized or theme'd and everyone starts writing about the same thing it could get rather redundant / boring.

Of course these are just my opinions and obviously others would prefer a theme'd one over a freestyle and vice versa.

Perhaps you can alternate your Monthly Creative Writing Competitions? Example

July - Freestyle

August - Grepo Drama

September - Legendary Players

October - Freestyle

November - Greatest Battle Operations

And so on and so forth.

Because taking a poll will be taking the mass preference of the people participating. So if the outcome is always their preference when do they get challenged and when do they start exerting extra effort into making something?

Just my two cents :)

And perhaps on some months take polls to turn things extra special

December - Community Choice

:p

Hmm, I take your point. There certainly needs to be a line drawn between accessibility and unpredictability.

Personally, I like to leave the categories quite broad - for instance, last month the theme was 'fantasy'.

I'm loving the entries I've seen thus far! We're up to the dizzying heights of four entries! :D

Four days left, anyone else fancy a pop at it? :)

OOooo, new to this forum! May need to try it out, but I nor you all should get your hopes up since I suffer from ADHD and usually dont stay focused too...Ooooo, shiny!!! *runs off into the night*

Topics could also include:

1. Female lead fantasy character
2. History (certain time periods, fictional/non-fictional leads)
3. Have a draw where someone picks it (random number generator)

Just ideas, looking to help out on the forums!!!

I hadn't thought about the historic periods - definitely going to be using those at some point! :)
