Statement regarding the start of the Christmas event

Dear community,

First of all we would like to apologize for the troubles and general discontent that the Christmas Event has caused during the last few days. We all had high expectations of this event and had been very excited to release it. Some mistakes have been made which should have been foreseen prior to the release on live worlds. We all agree that things like that shouldn’t happen and we will definitely learn from our mistakes so that it doesn’t occur again with upcoming events.

As all of you know, the event started on Sunday, December 1st. On this day, a critical bug occurred which caused the values of some rewards to randomly change. The horsemen reinforcement was the most affected reward and led to very large numbers of horsemen being generated, thus creating an unfair game balance for players being attacked by huge armies, and it also led to an unstable system on our side.

The bug itself was hotfixed on Sunday. Unfortunately, we were not able to take any action against already running effects before further investigations.

Today, we executed a script which:
  • Corrects all wrong rewards stored in the inventories of players. If the reward (Horsemen Reinforcement) has been acquired via non-free spin, the gold spent this way will be refunded. For example, if the player has received the horsemen reinforcement effect with the second spin, he/she will get back 50 gold.
  • Correct all running unit boosts which have been cast in the meantime and are still running. Here, again we will refund gold according to the spin associated with the reward.
  • Correct all remaining rewards for each day’s wheel.
  • Delete all active effects for which the player has already received the maximum amount of units.
  • Delete all active effects that have wrong values and restart them with the correct values immediately after.

Last but not least, there is a game design flaw still in discussion right now. Some players are currently able to instantly recruit units with the accumulation of several boosts. We are currently trying to come up with an alternative way to apply these time reduction bonuses, so that units don’t get recruited instantly anymore. We will inform you about the solution for this issue soon.

We are sorry for the inconveniences these issues might have caused you.

Best regards,
Your Grepolis Team
