I believe this map pretty much sums up my concerns:

So now i ask: what is wrong with corinth? Why is the SE so heavily populated while the SW is hardly populous at all this far into the world. Will corinth always be like this?

Probably! If you're rimmed by a core alliance if you go anywhere other than SE, you'll be farmed as soon as BP ends. So yes, it'll just stretch of to the SE.
