The level of barracks allows me to have horsemen. Is it worth doing or better increase the number of swordmen?

I agree with this. Horses are a superb offence unit and are also great at pillaging enemy villages for resources. In 1.26, I would have recommended somewhere in the region of 160 and I would agree with this figure in 2.0 for their pure attack; though of course you aren't going to use them for farming as you would in 1.26.

Its worth it, definitely.

i tend to farm player villages a lot so horsemen are pretty valuable in that regard even in 2.x

But horses do start decreasing in value because you no longer need them for efficient farming.

No they do not what?
They are still the second highest attack/pop (after slingers), but whereas in 1.26 you needed lots of horses to farm well, now you just use them for farming players and blunt nukes. I am not saying that you should not build them, but that they are less necessary.

I wouldn't say they are needed any less. What else are you going to use as a blunt nuke?

Just because they have one role instead of two now doesn't mean they aren't required as much.

^this

And with no they don't i meant they aren't going to become less valuable. They are the only effective units to use in a blunt nuke. Would you attack a city stacked with 1000 archers and 500 swords with hoplites?

what i should have said is that in 1.26 i don't farm the inland villages after about 5 cities (and i'm definitely not alone in this) so for me they are equally important in 2.x as they used to be in 1.26 (for farming player towns and as blunt attackers)

ok I'm not going to pillage anyone....i'm pacifist.... at least for now..
How effective are horsemen in defence? I read in above posts that it's possible to use them for farming. What does it mean and how it works?

horses are terrible defenders, should never be used to defend if you can help it.

using horses for farming inland villages is from the old version of grepolis. in the new version you don't farm villages with horses, you just demand resources and you get them. in 2.x the only thing you would use horses for is attacking other players, either fot BP (battle points) and for resources (farming them)

Horsemen are even more valuable in 2.0 IMO.

now u need more than ever to farm other players to compensate for the lack of resources from Farming villages.

You actually get more resources per farming village in 2.xx if you put the effort in.

Horsemen are awesome raiders

I am alone on an island. (No other alliance members) I have one other city that is active. All the rest are 200 -300 and abandoned. After clearing the swords out of each city I built 10 horsemen to raid these. AWESOME results. I can hit every abandoned city once a day cause horsemen are so fast. Each raid gives me 600 resources. I average about 6000 resources a day now from just these 10 horsemen.

Obv it will be different circumstances if your island is really active or you have other alliance members raiding the abandoned cities also. For me it has given me a huge advantage. I have grown like crazy after doing this.

I LOVE HORSEMEN!!!

But now rather than getting resources for a day in abt 20min of play. U need to spend 20hrs if u have more than 10-20 cities

Harpies of course! More damage per farm space and no transports or LS escort needed. ;)

yeah, and they only take about 100bn times longer to rebuild when they die ;)
