Proposal: My idea is for players to choose a specific type of government, each government type with its own set of bonuses.

Reason: I think this feature can give players a new way of strategizing and make cities more customizable. It will also give players a reason to keep Senate level high instead of demolishing it for farm space.

Details: This feature will be accessed via the Senate when it reaches level 25. Bonuses from governments will include resource production, to military bonuses, or building production, or more. Only cities with a Senate level 25 can receive the benefits of the government. If the Senate is bolted, for each level lost, the 10% bonus decreases by 2% until it reaches 0% at level 20. The player can build the Senate back up receiving 2% bonus for each level until the 10% at level 25. If a player decides to change a government, a penalty is enforced where all resource, troop, building, and favor production is halted for a certain time in all cities. This is not the final product, but here is the government list and bonuses so far:

Monarchy- 10% Faster Naval Production
Theocracy- 10% More Favor Production
Tyranny- 10% Faster Land Troop Production
Oligarchy- 10% More Resource Production
Democracy- 10% Faster Troop and Navy Speed

Visual Aids: None

Abuse Prevention: The only possible way to abuse this feature I think is by constantly switching governments. A possible fix for this could be a waiting period after switching governments. The player can not switch governments until the waiting period is over. The waiting period can be like 2-3 days.

Im interested, can you go into a bit more detail about the penalty though?? I think that is key.

The penalty for changing governments or an "Anarchy Period" would stop all resource production in the city, all troop production in the city, all favor production in the city, and all building production in the city until the government is changed to the new one. After it changes, all production in the city resumes. The duration of the "Anarchy Period" is determined by the game moderators. The time should be long however, so players will not benefit from switching governments many times.

I'm interested, may be a way to make better use of the Senate.

So what government types would there be?

Democracy

Dictatorship

???

Monarchy, Theocracy and Republic and something like a Martial law government would work.

I don't know if modern governments would be in the spirit of the game, but Communism and Socialism are examples.

Theocracy - Favour Production Prod +%10

That's exactly what I'm suggesting. The military-focused government can give a bonus to troop strength or speed.

Upon seeing this threads title, I was going to have a smart-guy response ready such as "We have enough problems with our governments in real life." But honestly it looks pretty fun and simple to understand (although coding this would take a bit of time)

I'm all for this idea, depending on how you guys explain it, but bear in mind that Greeks did so well in early civilization because of how their governments worked. They 'started' the whole Democracy thing, electing new governments, having large meetings in amphitheaters and stuff. (The Romans also were an early user of democracy, but don't mix them up).

So yeah, keep that in mind with your idea, but it's looking pretty good. :)

Greeks had a dictatorship rule at first and after that they got a democratic rule.

^ They did their thriving with the introduction of Democratic ruling.
now they are bankrupt :D

on a serious note, well put.

the phase of anarchy would preferably be some hours if i am correct, vis-a-vis turns in civ ?

Why specific cities, surely it should be your whole empire under the same government?

As much as I want to disagree with this idea...I gotta say, it has potential.

OMG Chrss thinks an idea is OK?

Wow...

That's the first time I've ever heard that :)

That's great news for your idea. Now you just got Corinthian II to worry about
